In Loving Memory of
13 July 1970 - 7 November 2008
You touched us
with your beautiful smile
your joyful bubbly nature
that danced across the air.

You touched us
with your sincere, kind and supportive words.
That special warmth and camaraderie,
you shared with us all.

You touched us
with your focused and gutsy running
with such determination and strength,
that showed us what passion and dedication can achieve.

You touched us
with the way
you could be,
not just a talented runner
but a loving wife and mother too.

You touched us
with your tremendous
courage and fighting spirit.

Yvonne you touched us forever.

You run with us always.

Dear Members,

It is with great sadness that I write this message to let you know that Yvonne died this afternoon. She leaves a huge gap. She put her heart and soul into being a wife and mother. She put energy and determination into being a top class runner. We will miss her warmth, her camaraderie and her friendship.

69th Takahe to Akaroa Road Relay

club members racing
Yet another year and another relay. The weather co-operated and the breeze meant the midges were merely an occasional pest. The highlight of the day for our Club was Ron Stevens leading his O50 Team to victory on his 50th running of this historic event. Our Masters Women and Mens Teams were second in their grades and our composite Team was 4th in the Mens C grade. The big surprise of the day was the Hilltop Tavern being closed when we all pulled up for the traditional after match debrief.

The Greta Valley Relay
Margaret and Katherine
More Photos Here

The second running of the Greta Valley Relay could not have happened on a better day. What an antidote to all those Saturdays through the winter when it seemed like the weather was a bigger challenge than the other runners!

This relay deserves to be more popular. The course takes you through scenery you would want to show a tourist. The view of the sea as you get to the top of the last hill on Lap 2 deserves a postcard all of its own. Run on a mix of sealed and gravel roads, this event is a great warm-up for Takahe to Akaroa, as each lap has hills and some have flat stretches.

This year we could appreciate the effects of the wet weather on North Canterbury as we wound past slips and drove tentatively past a missing chunk of road. Lambs and bird life were plentiful. The post-race hospitality at the Greta Valley Tavern is worth sampling. Olympic had 4 teams entered. All performed with distinction given that we were all wearing a pink Canteen bandana to support Yvonne. All profits from the event will be given to her Trust Fund. It is a 60 minute drive from Christchurch, so let's see if we can have 5 teams next year.
